The Good Side of Disagreeing

Good Morning,

 Nice letter. Thank you.

I’m sorry to hear about the meetings situation. Nothing serious, I hope.

To try to answer your question; “Why do I send you such messages?” This may not satisfy but long ago I felt that I knew exactly what Obama was. IS. I considered voting for him because I was not at all happy with McCain. And I read most of his book, “Dreams”. I didn’t finish it and I never looked at the second one. I mean now, what do you call a man who, at forty, hasn’t accomplished anything other than to have written two autobiographies? I don’t claim to be the sharpest knife in the drawer but I knew what he was. When he got elected the first time I hoped that I’d be proven wrong. I wasn’t. And another thing, I really hate being lied to. We’ve gone from a president who couldn’t tell a lie to one who can’t tell the truth. About anything. I stopped listening to his speeches long ago because I realized how reasonable he could sound, even when he was telling flat out lies. At times, even I could feel the tug, the desire to believe him. And that is what has made him so dangerous. So, to answer your question, I freely admit to having hate for the man. I figured that he was going to destroy the last decade of my life and, in many ways, he has. By the way, as bad as things are today, I fully expect them to get much worse before this is over. The short answer is that I have no more tolerance for the man and, foolishly, I am ready to believe anything about him. I’m not proud of feeling this way but he has more than earned it. Obviously, I could go on on but why?

“Am I not trying to set you straight, in some way?” I love you, Adam, but I am fully aware that whatever “setting one straight means” there is only one person who can do that. And that is you! I believe that you and Rocky, all kids today, really, have been indoctrinated with a lot of destructive ideology, passed off as ‘education’, but, if I’m right, you will have to figure that out for yourself. I just hope you are curious enough about finding the Truth to search for it.

Regarding auto insurance vs health insurance. This is an old saw that has been addressed many times. But, then again, probably not on the sources where you tend to get your information. I’m not an expert, or even a good debater, but, to me there is a big difference between having to buy auto insurance, for the privilege to drive my car. That insurance is to protect others from the harm that I might cause. Having to buy health insurance for the ‘privilege’ of breathing, on the other hand, and having to buy from the government what they tell me I MUST buy is a whole different matter. Breathing, unlike driving, is not a privilege. Ii is a right that I would put right up there with Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.

I will finish Ira Levin’s THIS PERFECT DAY today. Have you read it? It was published in 1970. Don’t know why I picked it up but, in a strange way, exaggerated as it is, it says a lot about what we are experiencing now. You probably didn’t notice but I signed one of my recent messages “Papa Jan”. He’s a character in the story that I strongly identify with.

Love ya,

Pop,
I'm sorry if I haven't been able to keep in touch as much as we would both like but the truth of the matter is that your e-mail caught me after a particularly unenjoyable 8am meeting and I had 30 minutes to kill before an 11:30 meeting (which also turned out to be quite painful).  I'm always a little bothered by the fact that you buy into these bogus chain e-mails so easily but I usually pass it off as an "agree to disagree" type thing.  Perhaps it was my mood this morning, perhaps it was the outrageous content of the e-mail; either way I felt the need to correct you this time.  I'm sorry if that offends you but I'm also curious as to your motivation in sending me the e-mail in the first place...are you not trying to "set me straight" in some way?

On a somewhat related note, I have a question for you that may open up a more constructive conversation on the ACA topic.  Why is auto-insurance, which I believe is required in all 50 states, not considered Marxist?

Adam

Thanks for the reply. Tis a bit fascinating, however, that the only times that I can get a response out of you is when you have an opportunity, like this, to set me straight. Well, it’s better than nottin.
