Diminishing Returns

For everything, there is A Point of Diminishing Returns.  We have long-since passed that Point with our laws and regulations.  America, "The Mainspring of Human Progress", is being smothered and, if we don't change course, we are headed for a state-of-chaos.
The following is offered as a way to start changing our course. It is a simple, easy to understand, nonpartisan way to assure that all new laws be shorter and clearer, easier to read and understand.  It would also, over time, improve or remove laws that are already on the books.

ASSERTIONS, Regarding legislators:

1.  The incentive is for them to write new law. That is how they make their mark.

2.  There is no incentive to weed-out, or improve, laws already on the books.

3.  There is little incentive to write laws that are clear and succinct.  The Founders and The Framers used 5,680 words to give us The Declaration of Independence and The Constitution.  Those who wrote the Affordable Care Act used 11,588,500 words to inflict Obama Care on us.  If "Brevity is the Soul of Wit", it would surely be good for legislation, as well.

PROPOSED LAW

This law would require that, before any new legislation can become law, a like number of words, plus 10%, must be stricken from the laws that are currently in force.

EXAMPLE: If a proposed law contains 1,000 words then 1,100 words would have to be stricken from laws that are currently on the books.

WHAT MIGHT THIS LAW ACCOMPLISH?

Because it would affect every new piece of legislation:

1.  Laws would be written more succinctly, making them easier to read and understand.

2.  Over time, laws already in force would become clearer.

4.  Bad law, or laws that have outlived their time, would, eventually, disappear.

5.  Citizens would be more likely to read and understand proposed legislation.

FINAL WORD
If presented and articulated properly, who could oppose such a law?  Yes, there would be those who would oppose it but their reasons would seem obvious.  Somehow, they must be benefiting from The Fog of Legislation, flimsy ground upon which to stand.

Another PUBLIC PULSE submission

SUBMISSION FOR PUBLIC PULSE

Regarding Ron Holscher's Dec. 26th reply to my message of Dec.19th: It seems obvious that Ron and I will agree on very little regarding the pros and cons of the 'new' and 'old' healthcare systems.

In your castigation of the 'old' system, Ron, you lament that - "Congress prohibits Medicaid and Medicare from negotiating with drug manufacturers to lower the cost of a Nexium pill." Personally, I'm for the lowest possible price. I'm also convinced that the free market is the best way to achieve that end. Do you not realize, Ron, that all three of your culprits, Congress, Medicare and Medicaid, are government entities? They are the antithesis of the free market, always producing the highest costs? How much did the government pay for that toilet seat, once again? Ironically, we seem to agree, after all, that it is government that is the problem.

With no illusions about changing your mind, I do hope you will reconsider your blind faith in wanting government to control, and run everything having to do with, your healthcare. My hunch is that this will not be good for your health.

HEALTHCARE NOW! AND WHAT DOES THE FUTURE HOLD?

Please tell me, again, why we are supposed to hate this system.
Recently, for no apparent reason, I passed out. When I called my doctor's office and told them what had happened they arranged for me to see the doctor an hour later. That was last Tuesday. The doctor's learned assessment was that I had "SDT" (Some Damn Thing) and that "We are going to get to the bottom of this." Both his humor and his determined and reassuring comment were much appreciated.
On Wednesday they called and told me my blood, which they had drawn on Monday, tested normal.  They, also, informed me that they had arranged two appointments for me for the next day, Thursday. One appointment was for a Cat Scan and the other was for an ultra-sound check of my Corroded Arteries. They also told me that I have an appointment on Monday, next, to see a cardiologist.
Now, who would not be impressed with this incredible display of both healthcare and compassion? Lest anyone jump to the conclusion that I must be a VIP, or someone with great means, neither is true. It should also be noted that every decision made has been between me and my doctor, with nary a government bureaucrat or death panel in sight.

Dear Fellow Citzens

SUBMISSION FOR THE PUBLIC PULSE:

In an attempt to find out if Nebraska will be participating in a meeting at Mount Vernon on Dec. 7th, a meeting to establish ground rules for an Article 5 'Convention of the States', I have sent over fifty messages to Nebraska's State Legislators. To date, there has been no reply to any of these messages.

This meeting will be an historic event as the provision of The Constitution to be discussed has never been used before. And this is not about politics. It’s bigger than that. No matter which political party you identify with, please contact your State Legislator and let them know that you want Nebraska represented at this meeting.

If you have ever wondered what you could do to help bring about change in Washington, this may be your answer. Please contact your State Legislator and let them know your wishes.

THIS CLOSE TO REVOLUTION

Subject: Re: NUCLEAR OPTION
Good morning Steve,

As I have already said, I understand and appreciate your frustration. If I thought there was something that could be done that would have an impact and make a real difference, I’d be right there with you. But the last thing I want to do is to throw away my life on a futile gesture that does nothing to change things. I am also convinced that Obama will use any such effort of force as an excuse to declare Martial Law. And, once he’s done that, what will stop him from postponing the elections and assuming, “for The People’s Good”, His Rightful Position of King or Dictator. I expect him to do this anyway, at some point, but to be the instigator of it I would need a lot more confidence in success than I currently can muster.

At this time, I am of the opinion that the best path forward is to convince the State Legislatures that they can, indeed, regain their rightful position of power, relative to the Federal Government. It wont be an easy slog because the State Legislatures have long since caved to the bullies in Washington. Most State Legislators who are currently in office have never even thought about the potential power that they possess. The first thing that needs to be done is to make them realize that they do have the power and that, hence, they can start turning-the-tide that is pushing us toward our demise. It will take some time for the State Legislators to get comfortable with this idea and with the prospect of using their power. It’s not going to be easy or fast. Not in my lifetime, for sure, but it’s the path that was laid out in the Constitution by The Framers for this very situation, this moment in history. How beautiful, to use The Constitution to save The Constitution!

If the December 7th meeting is reasonably successful, it will lead to more such meetings. These meetings will raise awareness of, and confidence in, the process. The vary fact that they are happening will be a shot across the Fed’s bow. All good!  And, though I may be getting over confident, here, I think the State Legislatures just may come alive with a new and profound energy once they realize that they have this power. Let us hope that they will, then, assume this new/old role of theirs. Hey, I can hope, can’t I?

So, in a word........ PLEASE, let’s do everything we can to help make the first meeting, on December 7th, a success.

Be of Good Cheer,

Dick

Dick,

I think we are past the point of no return as the Judiciary can now legislate with little to no push back from the Legislative Branch.  I have purchased Levin's book.  My representative is Beau McCoy, 39th District.  I contacted him regarding 2nd Amendment concerns and his response indicated a very high regard for conservative and constitutional issues.  However, I believe that ALL politicians are in it for personal gain so I don't really trust any of them.

I am collecting precious metals...............gold, silver and lead.  I continue to educate my kids and grand kids but if I make enough I am out of this country.

Steve

Steve,

I understand and appreciate your frustration but I think we need to direct all that energy to making sure as many states as possible are in attendance at the meeting on December 7th in Mount Vernon, VA. I think Mark Levin has found the way to get our country back and this meeting is the first big step in the process. And the beauty is, the path is right there in the Constitution. We use the Constitution to save the Constitution.

Please join in the effort to make sure as many of the State Legislatures as possible are in attendance at that meeting.

Dick

Dick,

The unraveling continues!  I am convinced that this is no longer Dems Vs Reps nor Libs Vs Cons........it is Government Vs the People.  I believe an armed insurection and takeover by the PEOPLE hopefully with the aid of the MILITARY is our ONLY remedy.

The Good Side of Disagreeing

Good Morning,

 Nice letter. Thank you.

I’m sorry to hear about the meetings situation. Nothing serious, I hope.

To try to answer your question; “Why do I send you such messages?” This may not satisfy but long ago I felt that I knew exactly what Obama was. IS. I considered voting for him because I was not at all happy with McCain. And I read most of his book, “Dreams”. I didn’t finish it and I never looked at the second one. I mean now, what do you call a man who, at forty, hasn’t accomplished anything other than to have written two autobiographies? I don’t claim to be the sharpest knife in the drawer but I knew what he was. When he got elected the first time I hoped that I’d be proven wrong. I wasn’t. And another thing, I really hate being lied to. We’ve gone from a president who couldn’t tell a lie to one who can’t tell the truth. About anything. I stopped listening to his speeches long ago because I realized how reasonable he could sound, even when he was telling flat out lies. At times, even I could feel the tug, the desire to believe him. And that is what has made him so dangerous. So, to answer your question, I freely admit to having hate for the man. I figured that he was going to destroy the last decade of my life and, in many ways, he has. By the way, as bad as things are today, I fully expect them to get much worse before this is over. The short answer is that I have no more tolerance for the man and, foolishly, I am ready to believe anything about him. I’m not proud of feeling this way but he has more than earned it. Obviously, I could go on on but why?

“Am I not trying to set you straight, in some way?” I love you, Adam, but I am fully aware that whatever “setting one straight means” there is only one person who can do that. And that is you! I believe that you and Rocky, all kids today, really, have been indoctrinated with a lot of destructive ideology, passed off as ‘education’, but, if I’m right, you will have to figure that out for yourself. I just hope you are curious enough about finding the Truth to search for it.

Regarding auto insurance vs health insurance. This is an old saw that has been addressed many times. But, then again, probably not on the sources where you tend to get your information. I’m not an expert, or even a good debater, but, to me there is a big difference between having to buy auto insurance, for the privilege to drive my car. That insurance is to protect others from the harm that I might cause. Having to buy health insurance for the ‘privilege’ of breathing, on the other hand, and having to buy from the government what they tell me I MUST buy is a whole different matter. Breathing, unlike driving, is not a privilege. Ii is a right that I would put right up there with Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.

I will finish Ira Levin’s THIS PERFECT DAY today. Have you read it? It was published in 1970. Don’t know why I picked it up but, in a strange way, exaggerated as it is, it says a lot about what we are experiencing now. You probably didn’t notice but I signed one of my recent messages “Papa Jan”. He’s a character in the story that I strongly identify with.

Love ya,
Pop

Pop,
I'm sorry if I haven't been able to keep in touch as much as we would both like but the truth of the matter is that your e-mail caught me after a particularly unenjoyable 8am meeting and I had 30 minutes to kill before an 11:30 meeting (which also turned out to be quite painful).  I'm always a little bothered by the fact that you buy into these bogus chain e-mails so easily but I usually pass it off as an "agree to disagree" type thing.  Perhaps it was my mood this morning, perhaps it was the outrageous content of the e-mail; either way I felt the need to correct you this time.  I'm sorry if that offends you but I'm also curious as to your motivation in sending me the e-mail in the first place...are you not trying to "set me straight" in some way?

On a somewhat related note, I have a question for you that may open up a more constructive conversation on the ACA topic.  Why is auto-insurance, which I believe is required in all 50 states, not considered Marxist?

Adam

Thanks for the reply. Tis a bit fascinating, however, that the only times that I can get a response out of you is when you have an opportunity, like this, to set me straight. Well, it’s better than nottin.

Dear Fellow Citizens

Dear Fellow Citizens,

Yes, “These are the times that try men’s souls”.  But, instead of just complaining about Washington, it is within our power to do something about the mess that IS the Federal Government. As history has proven, time and again, the course we are now on will lead to our serfdom. if we speak up now, however, it is still within our power to alter the course.  On December 7th there will be a meeting at George Washington’s home in Mount Vernon, VA. The purpose of the meeting is to set us on a new course, one that will lead not to our serfdom but to Freedom. We must do everything possible to insure that this meeting is a success!

I urge you to contact your State Legislators today and ask (nay, insist) that they make sure your State is represented at this Mount Vernon meeting. The Founding Fathers provided us, through the State Legislatures, with the power to change the situation we are in. And where does this POWER come from? It comes from the very source and insurer of our freedoms, THE UNITED STATES CONSTITUTION. *

I fear that, like too many of We The People, many of our State Legislators may have grown comfortable with being dependent on the Federal Government. If this is true, they will shudder at the prospect of having to stand up and be Real Leaders, again.  That is why We The People must speak up, NOW!  We must awaken our state Legislators and urge them to recapture their rightful position of power. As our representatives, it is not only their responsibility but their great opportunity to grasp this moment in history.

 “Papa Jan”
Levin’s2 Legions

 * It is called Article 5.

And if you want to know more about what this meeting concerns, I suggest you read Mark Levin’s book, The Liberty Amendments. The first chapter is on the Internet and can be read free of charge.
